Olympics-west slopes northern Cascades and passes-West slopes central Cascades and passes-801 pm pst sun dec 28 2008

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 am pst Tuesday...

Six to ten inches of snow are expected in the mountains above about 1500 feet Monday afternoon and evening as a frontal systemmoves across the area.

Additional weather systems expected Tuesday night or Wednesday...and again Thursday night and Friday may be much stronger and have considerably more moisture than this first weather system. The systems later in the week will also be accompanied by stronger winds. People headed into the mountains should expect winter weather and significant snowfall over the upcoming week.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that snow accumulations are expected to be significant but not especially heavy and only minor traveldifficulties are expected. If heavier snowfall is expected or windy conditions accompany the snow then a winter storm warningwould be issued.

Stay tuned to forecasts and carry winter weather clothing...some extra water or food...and be ready for occasional delays in the mountains passes over the upcoming week.
