Flood Recovery Call Center Open Through Saturday
The Flood Damage Recovery call center set up by Whatcom County and all county jurisdictions will continue to be staffed from 12 noon through 8pm on Friday, and 9am to 5pm Saturday, to receive damage reports. Whatcom County property and business owners are encouraged to call (360) 778-8500 to report damages to property caused by flooding or landslides, or go on line to www.whatcomcounty.us and complete a damage report. After the call center closes Saturday at 5pm, the on-line reporting will be available into the first part of next week.
Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers firefighters and city and county staff have been staffing the call center since Tuesday and have taken over 100 calls so far. Data gathered will be compiled and reported to the state where it will be analyzed to determine the county's eligibility for federal disaster assistance. Officials are expecting an assessment team from the state to be in the area early next week to begin a preliminary assessment of damages.
"Thanks to many dedicated staff and volunteers this new call center is functioning smoothly and effectively." said Assistant Fire Chief Andy Day. "We are confident our efforts will help speed up the process for getting assistance from the state and federalgovernment."
