West slopes northern Cascades and passes-West slopes central Cascades and passes-
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 pm pst this afternoon......Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday afternoon through late Friday night...
The national weather service in Seattle has issued a Winter Storm Watch...which is in effect from Friday afternoon through late Friday night for the north and central Cascades. A winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 4 pm pst this afternoon.
Snow levels will continue to rise and should push 5000 feet by late today. Snow levels will likely remain near the surface in the passes with cold low level flow remaining out of the east.
Expect snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches today to be followed by another 4 to 8 inches tonight above 5000 feet.
Another frontal system will move across the area Friday with falling snow levels Friday afternoon through Friday. Significant snow is possible as a result of this system passing through and is the reason for the winter storm watch.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow...sleet...and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.Those planning travel across the cascades should be prepared for hazardous...winter driving conditions.

Avalanche warning Thursday...
Another strong low pressure system should move to Vancouver Island along the stalled front on Thursday. This should bring renewed very strong crest level winds and increasing snow or rain with further warming.
This should cause further development of avalanche conditions on Thursday. As a result back country travel is not recommended near Avalanche terrain in the Olympics and cascades on Thursday.
